63 Parks: Death Valley, CA
Park 1 of 63 • DEVA
National Park: Death Valley, 1 of 9 California national parks
Season: I’ve visited this park 4x and they’re all in the first weekend of April (hence my parkniversary! 😆). Late Fall through early Spring are good times to visit this park
Stay: I stayed at a motel near Beatty in Nevada during my first (solo) visit which is close to the Rhyolite ghost town, worth a stop if you’re in this area. Other times, I camped at Furnace Creek campground next to the Furnace Creek Visitor Center. Convenient and central spot!
Favorite Hike: the Badlands, Gower Gulch and Golden Canyon (with a side stop at Red Cathedral) loop from Zabriskie Point. The circuit is ~8 miles
Bucket List: the Racetrack Playa. Relatively hard to reach without high clearance/off-road vehicle but worth the trip (and head concussions) for a unique experience
Tips: bring exxxtra water and don’t start your hike at noon (like I did on my very first bucket list hike 😂)
